The Apple Debate

I HATE when people say. “Well, because it’s a mac”… My Mac is NOT sub-par to your windows computer.

I agree, that 5 or 6 years ago, before OSX came out, that YES mac’s were sub-par, you couldn’t do shit. They sucked. I’ll gladly agree to that, but anyone who says that now, is an idiot.

Since OSX Mac’s have blown windows out of the water for everything. I don’t have to worry about getting a virus, I don’t have to worry about accidentially downloading trojan software, my browser correctly support standards, it has tabs built in, the Mail Application is useable.

My Mac has an amazing collection of applications to manage my music, photos, and everything else you could want.

I easily can use my favorite Unix applications, and with a small dwnload, I can have full X abilities!

Show me where Windows competes in any of these areas? IE doesn’t even come close to supporting standards, IE doesn’t offer even a basic ability to have tabs, the Mail application sucks, and to have even the basic usability of Unix, there’s a TON of extra things to download, and they don’t even come close to the ease of use and integration that the Mac has.

Whenever I complain about something… IE. “Why does Acrobat install Yahoo! Messanger”… it’s almost ALYWAYS because I am using a windows computer. So SOMEONE please tell me WHY THE FUCK does Acrobat install the fucking Yahoo Messager!? I NEVER have these issues on my fucking mac… When I download Acrobat, that’s the only fucking thing it installs… ETC!

The new MacPro’s beat out Dell’s pricing for similar hardware spec systems, granted, we’re talking systems that are $2,500+. Although Apple can’t yet meet the $300 price-point of some Dell systems, even the cheapest of Apple’s machines, the Mini, still beats out an equivalent Dell system in price. Also, each time Windows is released, you typically have a major slow down in your performance on your system, thus causing you to buy a new system. With MacOSX, each new release has actually brought about FASTER OS speeds to those with older systems over the previous OS release!

In short, I honestly don’t think that people who haven’t significantly used both OSes for a while should really be dissing one or the other. I have used Windows, MacOSX, and Linux in a daily operating life, as a desktop, server, and tons of other roles. In the long run, the MacOSX has proven to be far more useful and reliable then the WindowsOS for me.

When I lived in Iowa, I drove my car for ~60,000 miles, during all that time, I NEVER changed the air filter.. I know you’re supposed to, but I never noticed any problems. Since I’ve lived in OC, I changed it every couple Oil changes. NOW living in LA, it seems to be EVEN worse! Ugh!

Friday, I always look forward to getting to my office and having a NICE big office to myself, and of course …. My WONDERFUL chair. It’s so comfy and set just right… I get there this past week, and someone has STOLEN my chair! UGH! Why do people feel they can steal your chair!!!

Also, Friday I was driving down to Austin’s via PCH, lots of stop and go, traffic lights, etc. But the speed limit is 45. I got stuck behind this Mini-van.. Every light we came up to, the damn van would slow down to 15-20mph.. Even if the light was CLEARLY GREEN! It was SO annoying!

AAR Concert last night ROCKED!

Sooooo much fun, even though I’m DEAD tired this morning. LARGE amounts of coffee shall be consumed today.

Alex showed up at my office shortly after 5, we hung out there waiting for Robert. He got there, we drove over tot he Fair, even though we got lost. 🙁 The 405/55 were horrible, so we were just going to take side streets, but we clearly missed our turn somewhere.

Got to the fair, yummy smells commenced. 🙂 We got brats to start, then I had a funnel cake! Yummmy! I can’t wait to get back to Iowa where the REAL fair food is! Lamb burgers here I come!

After the food, we wondered around some and then went to the stage. Hung out there waiting for the band to start. Saw a Jay look alike, although shorter and he didn’t have as nice an ass. haha. I could have also sworn I saw Stephen Oda there, I txted him, but the bitch never got back to me.. I’m sad that we never hung out more often, he was a nice guy.

The first band came on, some crazies from Boston, Mass. They were pretty good, but no one really got into them.

They left, and then there was like an hour of stage crap… And finially the Rejects came on! Woot! They were great… And so fucking hot! 🙂 Yummy.

After they were done, we went over and rode the farris wheel and then left, Robert and I were dead tired!

On the way home, a motorcylce went flying past me, weaving in and out of the HOV lane. He had to have been doing 110+… Shortly after that there was a CHP flying through traffic, swearving from the left shoulder over to the right sholder and back… If that CHP ever caught up to that moto boy, he’s gonna be in a HELLA deep water… Not only for speeding like a MOFO, but for also weaving in and out of the HOV lane and I’m sure 8 million other things. haha. Sucks to be him!

Not too much else going on, still trying to plan for this mess of a trip to San Diego this weekend. Thank god I just got a check for $80 in the mail, so now I don’t feel so bad for spending the money to go down there

I found out yesterday that the CD player in my car doesn’t work any more.. Add that to the list of other things that don’t work… 🙁 So I’ve been hard core looking into getting a new car again… I know, I’ve been talking about this for like 2 years, but still! I will _eventually_ actually get something.

I’ve found a nice 2005 Audi A4 Convert… Not including the $6K base cost over the Civic I’m also looking at, it’ll cost me ~$2k per year that I own it over the cost of the yearly civic costs. (Ie, insurance, gas, registration). So yeah. I dunnno if it’s worth it. It looks so fucking nice though! 🙁

It’s the Rejection!

So… My oil needed changing, so I found a new place to take it in my new area. I found this “Chevron OilStop” and they were having a sale, it was only $19.99! From the normal $29.99. So I figure why not give it a shot.

I pull in and the guy greets me at my car. I say, “How long will it be, I’d like to just drop it off and go get my hair cut.” He says. “You have to stay with your car.”

I think to myself, that’s strange. Most places won’t let you anywhere NEAR your car while they are working on it. Liability and all that. So I’m like whatever, and just go for it. He starts talking and is like. “We’re not paid commission or to upsell you, we’re only here to offer you products that will help your car last longer, blah blah blah.” I start to think this was a bad idea, but I go for it anyways. So he starts his thing. First thing he does of course is say that my car is due for an “Oil Cleaner, it’ll only take an extra 3 minutes and will cost $12.95 more”. I’m like, “No thanks.” Then he goes on and starts his “38 point inspection.” Pulls out the air filter and comes back to me. “Excuse me sir, your air filter is due for replacement”. I tell him I had just done that. Cause I did. He goes back to work.

After a bit he comes back to me and starts to tell me that the oil plug is the wrong kind, and that they can sell me the “right” one for only $4.95! What a deal! I say, “That one has worked for 100,000 miles, I’m sure it’ll work a few more.” Then he goes, “Well it’s recommended you replace the seal every oil change, it’s only $1.99!”. No THANKS! Then he says… “Your car is due for a coolant and transmission flush it’s recommended every 60,000 miles”. UGH!

So I’m getting really pissy with this guy. He has NO IDEA what my car needs or does not need. I came in for a fucking Oil change, NOTHING ELSE! Stop trying to upsell me shit that I don’t need. I just got all this stuff done at 90,000 miles. My car is NO WHERE NEAR the 60,000 mile “recommended service” interval for these things. I could at least see him suggesting all this stuff if he had ASKED me when I last had service done. But he didn’t ask a single question.

I feel sorry for people who go in there not knowing anything and do everything this guy suggests. They’d be going in for a $30 oil change and walking out of there paying over $100!

In short, Never going back there again! 🙂

My scope today says this: Venus, planet of love, is going through sensitive Cancer, the sign of changing moods. Emotionally, this can make us long for deep connections … but moodiness can make love feel like a moving target. Luckily, Cancer bears a warm, mushy heart beneath its tough shell … so when you finally do break through, it’s sweet rewards.

Damn things, why can’t they ever be right! Ugh.

Anyways, yesterday after work I went to lunch with Robert, that was enjoyable. Did the oil change, then got my hair cut. I was wanting to have it bleached out to the color of my blonde spot. But I went to SuperCuts and apparently they can’t do that? Strange since they do highlighting! It’s the samn damn thing basically! Anyways. Maybe next time I’ll do it. I got it cut uber short again. Now Carlito can’t pull on it. Came home and hung out for a while. Waited for someone to call to see if they wanted to go on a bike ride, but they didn’t by 6, so I just went on my own. Did about 15 miles, pretty hard core too, got out a lot of anger. 🙂

Got home from that, showered and then finished MTM. Now I’ve got to go buy the Season 4 DVD’s. Where the hell is my Amazon Giftcard!? It should have been here days ago! Ugh.

After that I went to bed… I got a txt little after midnight that woke me up. It was someone telling me: “I just saw your boy.” I asked him what boy and where, but he never replied. It kinda pissed me off, I’m sure it was just Carlito, which who cares. But whatever.

Speaking of the boy situation. I’m still pissy about it all. It’s all about the rejection of the situtation, more then anything. I hate it. I’m sick of being rejected by the guys that _I_ actually like. And for stupid reasons always! And then when I try and grow and learn from it, I can’t get a good response out of them to figure out what it is that _I_ need to do to make myself a better person.

Screw them all though. I’m an amazing boyfriend, they are the ones missing out. I just need to deal with the rejection part better and keep going. There’s less then 6 months left for my quest to prove fruitful! haha.

I got moved into my new NB office yesterday. It’s bigger then the last, but I think the view is lacking (I get the airport instead of the mountians) and it’s not as bright (the sun comes up on the other side of the building). Also, it’s closer to the bull pin, so I can hear everything that goes on in there and I have to keep my music softer now. But I’m only going to be here one day a week, so I think I can survive. 🙂

I’ve found a VERY strange thing with my new MacBook.. Whenever I play the song “Birdland”, about half way through my speakers just stop… They make this high pitched sqeal and then nothing. Not a sound from ANY applications. I have to quit iTunes, and then everything works fine again. It’s the WIERDEST thing ever!

The guy is going to give me a check on Thursday for my old laptop. I’m going to by 2Gig’s of RAM and a 120 Gig HD for the MacBook. I’ve been using parallels a lot lately, and it’s a great application, but 1Gig of RAM is just NOT enough. You can hear it swapping SO MUCH whenever I have parallels open. And I’m down to 10gigs of free space on the 80Gig Drive that’s in here now. 🙁 Those two things will cost about $350, so I dunno what I want to do with the rest of it. I’m debating between:

1 – Saving it

2 – Getting my tat

3 – Building my clock

4 – Building my bed frame

5 – Going back to Iowa with it

6 – A crazy shopping spree!

What do you think I should do!?

Work Drama

So… last week all of the PHS people were out of the office. Some offsite thing or what not.

Yesterday, TG cornered me in the bathroom and started telling me how I should start cuting JP out of my daily work routine, how he and AO will start coming to me directly instead of going through JP, etc. He also said they are going to move me over to the Yahoo! Center building and out of the WR office. I said, ok fine, let me talk to JP when he gets back. I’m still JP’s employee, not TG’s or AO’s personal boy-toy. No big deal.

Today I come into work late (at 10) because I’ve got a date with the boy tonight here in SM and what’s the point of driving here twice in one day? Anyways, when I get in I’ve got an e-mail from the CEO saying that I have to call him as soon as I get in. So I give him a ring. Apparently TG and AO told him that I wasn’t in the office at all last week.

Excuse me? Both of those people weren’t here at all last week themselves! How would they know if I was in the office or not? And secondly, I WAS in the office all week (Except Fri when I was in NB). In fact I put in over 60 HOURS of work last week. So I reminded him that just becuse I work 6-2, that doesn’t mean my day ends at 2 when I go home. I typically end up putting in 2+ more hours once I’m at home. He said he’d straighten things out, but it just annoys me. If they thought I wasn’t in the office, why not come to me and ask? And I _really_ want to know where they got that idea from in the first place! If they’d just check the page for the project I’m currently working on they would see HUGE changes from the week before (Line count change from the previous week is about 3,400 lines).

Out internet here today is ungodly slow. It’s taken me nearly an hour to upload the 14 megs of my project!

(Private)Secondly, last night the boy was suppose to come over after his practice. He said that he’d call me after he was done to confirm, because he wasn’t sure what time he’d be done. I wasn’t too concerned, but it annoyed me when he didn’t call till 8:30 and said, “Yeah I just got out of the shower”. Hello? What happened to “I’ll call you as soon as I’m off the water?” Cause I had been waiting for him so that I could eat! Though we talked for a while after that and got plans for today all figured out. I just dunno what to feel about him. He said he was really excited for our date tonight, etc, but then he does things like not call when he says he will. He promised he’d call me at 4 today, so we’ll see what happens. (Private)

(Private) So, the whole thing with the boy…. I just wanted to talk about it a bit more.. First are the txts and e-mails. After our first date he would txt or e-mail me every morning and every night with some cute txt, like “good morning sunshine” or “good night sweet pea” or something like that. Those seem to have basically stopped. Although this morning when I imed him, he did say “good morning sunshine” but alas he didn’t start it like usual.

Second is that when I was in san fran he kept saying he wanted me to come home early so we could hang out and go out and blah blah blah. But now that I’m back, he doesn’t seem as excited to hang out. Like last night he had a few hours before going to his parents. I could have gone up there and hung out with him. Or tonight he says he wants to hang out but that the has to work late. Which I guess is ok, but I’m just over analyzing thing again.

And then last night I sent him a message asking him to call me when he was on his way to his parents house so that we could discuss when we were going to hang out again…. he never called. So yeah. I just get the feeling that this isn’t going to last much longer. Ugh! I’m going to keep giving it my best, and keep being the “old” me till he cuts it off though, I’m not giving up hope. (Private)

Last night people around here were setting off VERY loud fireworks till 2 am. For being illegal, there sure were a lot of them.

Tux and Moo have been OVERLY lovey since I got home yesterday. I’m sitting in my office chair now and tux just keeps rubbing up against me. and last night he kept head butting me all night.

I forgot to mention that I found a 1972 Edition of the BSA Fieldbook over the weekend. Nothing too old, but it’s something to add to my collection.
