Yosemite Here I come!

Oh my, what’s up with this! I really suck at updating ya’ll! Oh well.

Things have been really busy lately. This past weekend I left home at 7am and didn’t get home till midnigt on Saturday. Then Sunday I just hung around all day.

Saturday I finally got the windows tinted in the G35! Yay. It’s so sexy now. At first I was scared that it was too dark, but now that I am used to it, I wish that I had got the back darker! Oh well, it’s still really sexy! 🙂

After that I went shopping at Target and then met up with JoErick to do some rock climbing at this gym. The guy running the place was HOT HOT HOT! Oh my god! We did some great climbing but JoErick dislocated his shoulder as we were doing some bouldering right before leaving. TOo bad for him! From there I headed to REI and spent WAY to much fucking money. But i bought this really cute Down jacket and a matching rain jacket. I wasn’t planning on buying any of that stuff YET, but they are having a HUGE fall sale AND it snowed 12 inches in Yosemite this past weekend… Did I mention that I’m going backpacking in Yosemite this upcoming weekend?!

Anyways, that REI didn’t have all the stuff that I wanted, so I headed to the other one which DID have what I needed. Picked that up and then went to dinner with the Aunt and Uncle. Crazy times.

Sunday I cleaned my apartment and helped Sirin move some shit to her new house. It’s SOOO cute! I wish that I could buy a house!

Umm, so Monday I worked and lots of annoying shit was going on as per normal! Freaking boss man is STILL authorizing purchases even AFTER I yelled at him last week about doing that! There was some other stuff too, but it was very annoying. Headed to the gym after that where Kacey proceeded to KILL me! Though I did do one armed push ups for the first time! yay!

So yes, this upcoming weekend I’ll be headed back to Yosemite for the second time this year. I’m very excited for it, but also very scared because of the snow! We’ll seeeeee

Const is in Houston!

Road trip to Houston!!!

This past week I have been on a road trip to Houston! Constantine has moved there for the next 6 months! 🙁

So Tuesday was not a very good day for me. I had a 4 hour meeting I had to prepare for, and I had to prepare to be out of the office for the next week and a half (I am in training this week). So I email all my clients and tell them that I will be gone, most of them were like. “Ok whatever”. Well one of them emailed me back and was all bitchy and was like. “I was expecting things to be done this week! blah blah blah. So I had to come pu with a way that I could work while traveling. I installed Windows 2003 on my external drive so that I could use Parallels, then installed MsSQL so that I had the DB. Then I had y 4 hour meeting which ended up only lasting 2 hours. Got done with that and it was noon and I wanted to go home. But As soon as I got back to my desk I had three clients IMing me wanting help with shit! UGH! Very annoying. I ended up getting out of the office at 2:30. Rushed home because Const said he’d be there in about 2 hours (when I talked to him at 2).

Get home and shower and pack real quick and what not… And then ended up sitting around till 6 when he finally got there. We went out to dinner with Sirin to Hennessey’s for burgers.

Got home that night and just hung out at the house and watched TV. Got up at 8 on Wed and had breakfast at this new Crepe place in Redondo Beach. We had a HOT french/russian/vietnamese waiter. He was really ncie too, we talked to him for a while and what not. The food was excellent! I would highly suggest going there and checking it out. It’s on the corner of Ave I and Catalina.

Got in the car and headed out after that. I plugged in my external drive (one of those portable ones that’s powered off USB) and worked away for a few hours. About the time I was finishing up, the hard drive suddenly says it’s been disconnected…. IT was still connected to me!!! So I unplug it and plug it back in… “Please initialize this drive”!

WTF! So I freak out because this drive has ALL my windows installations that I use for work, and training and playing and testing and everything else! PLUS It has ALL THE INFORMATION I need to be able to do work on this trip! VERY ANNNOYING!

The rest of the drive wasn’t too bad. 530 miles that day. Some VERY pretty wild flowers and stuff along the way. Got to the hotel and it was amazing. It was basically a HUGE apartment. Hung out there for a couple minutes and then went to dinner at an Asian place.

Thursday we got up at 8:30 again and we were on the road by 10. 550 miles that day. Lots of VERY VERY boring flat lands. Const spent hours calling all the apartments. I am SOOO jealous of these Texas apartments. 2 bedrooms with granite and hard wood floors and all this sweeeeet shit for WAY LESS then what I pay for a crappy 1 bedroom! Some of the places even have FREE starbucks coffee and fluff and fold service! UGH! That night we watched a comedian called Daniel Tosh. He’s very very funny. You should all go check it out.

Friday, 1610 miles later we MADE IT! 🙂 We got here and ate dinner at this very yummy Steak house called Smith & Wollensky got to the hotel and figured out plans for Saturday and then watched Americal Idol!

Satrday we got up at 8 and headed out to this place called Le Peep for breakfast. I got the blueberry pancakes which were not that good. But Const got bannana nut waffles which were delicious! After that we started looking at apartments. I think we went to like 10 different places. The second place we saw SMELLED soooooo fucking bad! GROSS! I wanted to puke when we walked into the stairwell to the apartment! The 4th place was just amazing! Very industrial with concrete floors and exposed duct work and what not. HUGE tub. It was SO CUTE! All the other places were really nice as well. At the end of the day we headed back to place number 4 to put down the money and what not. We get there and some guy is putting the deposit down on the apartment Const wanted. :'( So we went back to the third place which was also very nice and he got that one. I sure hope he will like it.

Saturday night we went out to a bar called “South Beach” which was tons of fun! Dancing and drinking and what not.

Sunday we slept in and then went shopping for stuff for his apartment. Got some really cute plates and what not from Pier 1. I think once I am back to LA I will go buy 2 more sets so that when he gets back we’ll have a 4some! haha. We went and saw the movie “Jumper” which was pretty good. After that we went back to the hotel and laid in the bed for a couple hours before my flight. I wanted to just bawl, but I held it back… I just realized that I forgot to get one last picture of us together there in Houston! Awwww. Anyways, we left the hotel and tried finding food on the way to the airport. That was one crazy adventure. We ended up in some GHETTO Popeye’s and got chicken. Seriously. I mean GHETTO! Got to the airport and it was very sad, but I held it together. I can’t wait to see him again.

My Trash Won’t Empty!

My Mac has been having issues lately. It can’t empty the trash!

I put stuff in there, I hit “Empty” and it says it does, but the Trash icon still says there’s something in there. I look, and it’s not showing me any errors.

I’ve let it go for a while because I couldn’t find anything. I went to ~/.Trashes and /.Trashes and everything was empty there. This past weekend I got out my install disk and booted off it, did a full disk and permissions repair and it said that everything was all right.

Well this morning, I got the bright idea to check the bootcamp partition. Sure enough, there’s a .Trashes on that partition, with a folder called “502” in it. I went ahead and tried to just remove it…

Wako-Bytes:BOOTCAMP chris$ rm -rf .Trashes/

To which my computer told me:
rm: .Trashes//502/\004␀␀␀ö\001␀␀.\024␀␀: File name too long
rm: .Trashes//502: Directory not empty
rm: .Trashes/: Directory not empty

Doing an ‘ls’ shows me this:
Wako-Bytes:502 chris$ ls
??????????o?????????.???????

I couldn’t move the folder, I couldn’t remove it, I couldn’t do anything.

So to fix this problem, I had to boot into Windows and run a full disk check there. During that check, it converts that whole folder into a file, which you can then REMOVE! 🙂

Problem solved.

I’m very excited to go home now and see if that fixed all my time machine issues as well!

How to recover 2Gigs of space on your new Leopard install!

I installed Leopard the weekend after it came out. Besides the few things I wrote about in the past that aren’t working. I really like it for the most part.

I have a MacBook Pro with a 120 Gig hard drive in there. I allocated 15 gigs to Windows, so that doesn’t leave me with much space really. Since this is my MAIN desktop and the computer I use for everything, I have _everything_ on here. After my recent trip to Europe, I’m running out of space. So I went looking for ways to save some space.

I found three things you can do to easily recover 2 Gigs of space on your mac:
1) Go to /System/Library/Speach/Voices/ and delete the folder called “Alex”. This is the newest voice from Apple, but sadly it takes up a whole 700 Megs of space! Insane!

2) Go to /Library/Application Support/iDVD/ and delete the folder called “Themes”. You just saved 500 Megs.

3) Go to /LIbrary/Application Support/iPhoto and delete the folder called “Themes”. You just saved another 500 Megs!

Suggestions: Make backups on an external drive first and don’t do this if you plan on using the themes to create books/cards/etc in iDVD or iPhoto. I don’t use either of those options, so it’s an easy and quick fix.

(I take no responsibility if you break something)!

Lets sue someone!

So on my way into the office the other day I had a brilliant IDEA! Lets SUE all the SUV/Truck drivers for polluting the air! It’s for the KIDS I tell you! Who’s going to think about the kids!??!?!

Furniture from Airplanes! Some very cool stuff on that site! Really neat idea!

Ever wanted to merge PDFs? For a while now I’ve just been using PDFMergeX. Which has been very useful, but today I learned another GREAT built in MAC OSX feature… How to easily and quickly merge PDFs without an added application!

Launch Automator. Click on Finder > Get Selected Finder Items and add to the right. Add “Sort Finder Items” too. Click on PDF>Combine PDF Pages and click “Appending”. Then add “Open Finder Items”. Save it as a Plug-In called “Combine PDFs”.

After all that, select your PDFs with Contro-Click, then in your menu, you’ll see Automator>Combine PDFs. Click that and you’ll see your combined PDFs. Again, I doubt windows can do that!

Thursday night we went out and saw 300. Verrrrryyyy good. I’m going to have to start the 300 workout soon! lol.

That is all.
