“Happy” Thanksgiving

Fucking horoscopes:

It’s important to be with your family or your tribe today, for the feeling of being connected to community can bring you great satisfaction. It’s not that you need to be like everyone else; you just want to be able to partake in the sharing. Pay attention to your discomfort level, for if others draw you in too close, you may want to withdraw. Finding a comfortable place between isolation and assimilation may be difficult, but it will be well worth the trouble.

Yeah right… good thing I’m going to be sitting alone at home all day.

Had a horrible fight with andrew last night… And now I’m feeling more alone then ever.

I did however go out with this guy Michael, he was pretty nice. He called me last night and asked if I wanted to see a movie this weekend, so I’ll probably take him up on that.

“Happy” Thanksgiving everyone.

Adios.

A Night of Magic!

Well this will be my last entry before I head off to France! I’m so excited and yet so freaking scared all at the same time.

So Scared for two reasons, 1) Because I’m going to a country where there are Riots and curfews now and plus I don’t know a lick of the language! 2) I’m very scared about seeing the person I’m going with again. It will be the first time since May.

But overall it should be a great trip.

So let’s talk about the amazing time I had last night!

I only worked from 10-2, but it seemed like the day just WOULD NOT END! I was so excited to get up to HollyWood and see Blake.

So I left work at 2, and got up to Hollywood at 4. Which was 2 hours before we were supposed to meet, but anyone who knows me knows HOW MUCH I hate sitting in traffic. So I’d rather get there 2 hours early and be able to relax and read then be stressed and pissed about traffic and get there on time… Anyways, I sat around and ate and read my book and saw the Hollywood sign for the first time since I moved here… I wish it had been sunny. I took some pics and was going to post them but I forgot my memory card reader at home. 🙁 Blah

Anyways, 6 finally came and I went and stood by the entrance where we were meeting. Someone walked by that looked so much like Blake I was about ready to run up and grab him as he was walking past, but then he got close enough and I realized he was a little too fat. haha.

Blake finally showed up, and I wanted to grab him and give him a big bear hug and not let go. But he didn’t seem to enthused about such a thing so we just walked around for a bit and talked. The whole time I just wanted to grab his hand and hold it or put my arm around him and walk around and be cute…. But again, after the talk on Sunday I wasn’t sure if it would be ok. 🙁

So we hung out and then went and saw a movie at the Chinese Theater. $22 for fucking two! We were supposed to see Zorro, but Blake can’t count and somehow we went into Corpse Bride… Which I would have rather seen anyways. So we watched that! It was good, but the sound track wasn’t as good as Nightmare, so that was sad. Through out the whole movie he kept rubbing my arm with his finger and it made me so happy and put a huge smile on my face.. I just wanted to grab him and hold him some! But again.. I was scared too. 🙁

After that we went down to Rodeo (sp?) drive and saw Steven Spilbergs house and lots of other cool big houses. I so wish I was rich. So we drove around for a while and he showed me the area since I’ve never been there. Then we found a spot to part and talked for a while…

Oh, we also went to the magic castle, which was really pretty. I wish I were cool and could get a membership there. lol.

We went our own ways at 10 and I cried all the way home… I wish there were some way that we could hang out more.

And I guess his night wasn’t over though because he got arrested for beating someone with a bat! I’m just glad to hear he’s ok.

So that’s the end people, I’m off to France early tomorrow morning!

Adios

Morain: Deck the halls with deviled eggs

When I was growing up in Ames, a friend of the family once spent Halloween in his basement. Alone. In the dark.

He had forgotten to buy candy for Beggars’ Night, so rather than make a trip to the store, he simply turned off all the lights in the house and retreated downstairs.

Each year as the holidays approach – not just Halloween, but the whole end-of-the-year shebang – a growing number of people consider sitting them out. Each year, it seems more people grouse about how early stores hang up tinsel, how many catalogs clog their mailboxes, how many pounds they pack on at the annual parties.

Far worse, of course, are the New Age “musical stylings” of carols that stores pipe in to put customers in a festive (read: spendy) mood. And while my father and I await the season’s first insipid strains with a certain masochistic glee, one or two rounds of Kenny G’s “Jingle Bell Rock” is more than enough to last us all year. There’s no reason stores need to crank that jank up before Thanksgiving, not to even mention Halloween, Labor Day or the Fourth of Holly Jolly July.

But take heart, Scrooges. You’re not alone. There’s mounting resistance to the season’s rampant commercialization. Things are spinning so far out of control that a lot of people are trying to figure out ways to tone things down, simplify or put on some pj’s and curl up in bed until April.

Consider, for example, John Grisham’s “Skipping Christmas,” the story of a couple determined to ignore the entire thing, cookies, carols and all. Despite the unfortunate movie version, “Christmas with the Kranks,” starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Tim Allen (there’s a reason they call him the Toolman), the idea of gliding through the season without going fa-la-loony has its appeal.

But there’s a little hitch. If we don’t celebrate the holidays, what will pull us through the dreariest months of winter? Without those highlighted squares at the bottom of the calendar, the wait for spring might be unbearable.

So here’s my idea: Let’s put all the traditional holidays on the shelf for a few years and celebrate some decoys just long enough to throw the Mighty, Mighty Retail Empire off track.

To make things easy, a whole smattering of obscure holidays are already sprinkled throughout the next couple of months. As it turns out, November, otherwise known as Aviation History Month and Peanut Butter Lovers’ Month, offers a quirky menu of potential fun, from Deviled Egg Day (2), King Tut Day (4), Marooned Without A Compass Day (6), Clean Your Refrigerator Day (15) and – goody-goody! – Square Dance Day (26).

Not to be outdone, December, or Bingo Month, has Wear Brown Shoes Day (6), followed closely by Put On Your Own Shoes Day (6), National Ding-a-Ling Day (12), National Bouillabaisse Day (14), and my personal favorite, Oatmeal Muffin Day (19).

Seriously, people, I’m not making these up. Visit holidayinsights.com if you want an expanded list.

Granted, most of these questionably official holidays were created by crafty PR goons – minions of the aforementioned empire of all things retail – but come on, who couldn’t get excited about peanut butter? Or getting lost without a compass? Just think of the possibilities for family gatherings.

So here’s the plan. Pay attention – this could work if we all get on board.

Step 1. Pick a weirdo holiday.

Step 2. Cook up some weirdo traditions.

Step 3. Send weirdo cards to your friends and family.

Step 4. Sit back and watch as the new traditions sweep the nation.

Then, a few years from now when stores catch on and start playing Kenny G’s version of “Walk Like an Egyptian” for King Tut Day, we’ll all switch back to the classics.

Sleepy

The last two days have been blah. I haven’t really done much.

I was informed that one of the projects I’m working on has been approved for 16 hours of overtime per week! Holla! I’m going to use as much as I can, but I don’t think I can use the full 16 hours. This week I’ll be able to fit in about 8. Unless I put in a few on the weekend.

I hung out with Marco last night. He’s from Brazil (Hence forth known as Brazil Boy). I could barely understand what he was saying, but he was fun. We watched the Family Guy movie. Very funny shit. He kept trying to come onto me too and I kept having to tell him “NO!” I don’t think his english quite understands “no” yet. haha. But nothing happened.

He left about 7:30 and I went to bed about 8:30 after promising to record Prision Break for Columbia Boy. So yeah.

Asterisk Boy is in LA this week and wants me to come up there and hang out. But that’s a long drive to just hang out with him for a few hours. He keeps saying he’ll buy gas and food. But I don’t really want to drive up there.

I’ve been really lazy the last two mornings.. Like I wake up about 4:15/:30 but just want to lay in bed. I didn’t get up till 6 yesterday and 5:30 this morning. Yep

Adios yall!

Dorian & Morrison

So I went and saw Dorian Blues yesterday… It was AMAZING! The best gay movie I’ve ever seen… Lots of sarcastic humor which everyone knows I love. Plus it was sad and made me cry… Everyone should go see it!

Yesterday was also a very productive day in the coding area. I got so much done! But I really have to start using functions more in PHP. I hate that I never really got into using them in HS because now I just never use them here either. lol

I’ve been invited to the Astricon party tonight. Not sure if I’ll go or not. I didn’t get much sleep last night.

I’ve been having two recurring dreams lately. One Happy Sad, the other Sad Sad. 🙁 Very random.

Also, if I ever have boys, I’m going to name them Dorian and Morrison. Such hot names!

OH! One last thing… Apple announced a TON of new really fucking cool products yesterday… Including the VIDEO iPOD! How fucking sweet! Too bad I already have a4th Gen one… I can’t justify buying this one. 🙁 Maybe when the next revision comes out.

Adios all!

EDIT:// I’m sorry, I keep editing this post, but I keep thinking of things I wanted to talk about!

Apparently the OCBSA doesnt’t really want adult leaders… Because I have now e-mailed 4 people in the District office and only ONE of them has got back to me.. THe only thing he said, “E-mail so-and-so”. I had already e-mailed him. It’s been over a week now since I last e-mailed someone! Bah!

And the fucking stock market needs to STOP GOING DOWN! Two of my funds are nearly back to where they were back in Jan… All the others are still up though so that’s good. Fucking stocks!

And LASTLY (I swear this time). I got the new IS250 pricing… Sadly, the model I wanted (With navi) is about 3k out of my price range now. I can still get the base IS250. But I think Lexus is completly gone out of my line up now. 🙁

I Lied… THREE more things

1. The new movie… Nanny McPhee… Looks like a total rip off, and a horrible movie.

2. I randomly found a reciept in a book I was reading yesterday… The reciept was from 3/19/2002 From the Ankeny Hy-Vee deli for Chinese food. Haha. Oh how those days were fun!

3. The new iTunes is AMAZING! I just watched the introduction of all the new products (Get the link from my digg stories at right). OMG, I want one of the new iMacs too.. AMAZING AMAZAING AMAZING! I love apple!
