Happy Birthday to ME!

Happy Birthday to me!!!

Yesterday was my birthday. It was a pretty good one. This year I haven’t really been feeling my birthday too much, but in the end I had a good one.

Constantine and I met up at the gym after work and we worked out, went home, showered and then went to HT Grill for dinner. Delicious! I had a Maple Apple Pork loin and he had Gorgonzola Flat Iron steak! My mouth is watering just thinking about them!

Went home after that and he gave me my gifts, I got a new battery for my laptop which was BADLY needed. Some cupcake mix from Sprinkles and some Olive oil and Vinegar! I can’t wait to try those out on the next italian food night!!

He’s such a great guy! :) He even txted me “Happy Birthday” at exactly the right time! (6:41am!)

I was a little disappointed that one of my grandma’s didn’t even call me, but I guess she’s always very forgetful.

At dinner we had a discussion about work though. I have been working on this project for months and months now with our lead developer and one of the VPs here. Well the VP has been acting as the project lead, however now he is being pulled off onto other projects and no longer has the time. Well they picked a new project lead and I absolutely HATE this guy. He’s a total DOUCHE bag! I mean seriously, WTF! Why was _I_ not chosen for it. I have YEARS AND YEARS more experience then he does. Besides, he’s supposedly PACKED with other projects, I have a lot of projects, but could have EASILY fit this one in. It’s all very annoying because I see things like this happening and I keep getting passed up. At my last review, I was told that they were considering me for a full time Client On-Site trainer, well it appears they have picked someone else to do that now. I just wish they would FULLY follow through on ONE thing they promise me. Cisco training, was never completed, who knows of my current training will ever be completed, ugh.

My Aunt is coming to town on Thursday, I’m really looking forward to showing her around RB! Gotta find stuff to show/do!

I really wanna know what the cause was, suicide, accident? WHAT! What could have caused him to do this!

And WHY! Why on earth can’t it be one of those annoying bitches like Britney or Paris! Why him! He was gooooooood!

My Trash Won’t Empty!

My Mac has been having issues lately. It can’t empty the trash!

I put stuff in there, I hit “Empty” and it says it does, but the Trash icon still says there’s something in there. I look, and it’s not showing me any errors.

I’ve let it go for a while because I couldn’t find anything. I went to ~/.Trashes and /.Trashes and everything was empty there. This past weekend I got out my install disk and booted off it, did a full disk and permissions repair and it said that everything was all right.

Well this morning, I got the bright idea to check the bootcamp partition. Sure enough, there’s a .Trashes on that partition, with a folder called “502″ in it. I went ahead and tried to just remove it…

Wako-Bytes:BOOTCAMP chris$ rm -rf .Trashes/

To which my computer told me:
rm: .Trashes//502/\004␀␀␀ö\001␀␀.\024␀␀: File name too long
rm: .Trashes//502: Directory not empty
rm: .Trashes/: Directory not empty

Doing an ‘ls’ shows me this:
Wako-Bytes:502 chris$ ls
??????????o?????????.???????

I couldn’t move the folder, I couldn’t remove it, I couldn’t do anything.

So to fix this problem, I had to boot into Windows and run a full disk check there. During that check, it converts that whole folder into a file, which you can then REMOVE! :)

Problem solved.

I’m very excited to go home now and see if that fixed all my time machine issues as well!

Cloned Food.

So I was reading the yesterday that the FDA has yet again approved Cloned meat and Milk to be introduced into the food supply.

I’m sorry, but I really don’t understand what the point of cloning food is. We have NO IDEA what kind of effects it will have in the long run. This is basically the same as in breeding. They’ll be taking the most prized animals, cloning them and then breeding the clones.

It all seems very unsafe to me. This is what “selective” breeding is for anyways, it’s just being taken to a whole nother level.

I disapprove.

I’m so Lucky

To be able to work with such smart people at my office.

Everyone there really seems to know their shit, no bullshit, etc.

After seeing these people in this training class and hearing the kinds of questions they have, it’s amazing that they are able to keep the jobs they have.

We were talking about Character sets the other day and the professor was explaining how Oracle will convert a date format to whatever format the User has specified in their session. IE, I’m in the US, so I have a US char set. Therefore I can tell Oracle today’s date is ‘01-12-2008′ and it will know that means January, 12. Not December 1 as it would be in Europe. However, if I’m in Europe and have some european char set, it will give me todays date in 12-01-2008.

So some girl asks. “So what if I have a user in China and they enter their name in Chinese, will Oracle convert that to English?”

Are you fucking kidding me?!? WTF! And this girl is a DBA at Edwards Airforce base! A couple days before that the professor went off on a tangent about the primaries and electoral colleges, etc. The same girl asked what an electoral college was. This woman was freaking in her 40’s! How do you NOT KNOW what an electoral college is?

UGH. Seriously! And these DBA’s were asking questions that they should ALREADY KNOW! I mean seriously, I’ve hardly touched Oracle, I know how to install it, I know how to write SQL and PL/SQL, and that’s about it! But I knew alot more about the advanced Oracle setup then they did. Most of them had NO BACKUP policies in place, no RAID on the servers, nothing. So basically if there’s a horrible crash, they lose EVERYTHING.

How do these people get to the positions that they have? I don’t freaking get it!
